1. COURSE INFORMATION:
ACC 211 Principles of Accounting l (3 CR. HRS)
Accounting Principles and practices applied to routine
business transactions and events, components of an accounting
system, and financial statement presentation. Lecture
3 hours
per week
2. GENERAL COURSE PURPOSE:
This course is designed to give the beginning business
students
a general understanding of the purpose of accounting,
the capacity to perform basic accounting functions, and a working
knowledge in financial statement preparation.
3. ENTRY-LEVEL COMPETENCIES:
A working knowledge of arithmetic, average skills in reading
comprehension, and the ability to visualize and understand
basic operations of individual business activities in
a free
enterprise economic system.
4. COURSE OBJECTIVES/EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES:
Students will learn to analyze routine business transactions
and events, record them in journals and ledgers, summarize
recorded data, determine effects of internal value changes within the business
enterprise, and prepare financial
statements.
Students will learn both accounting theory and practice
which
will prepare them for continued study in accounting or
to
acquire the ability to manage personal and career finances.
5. MAJOR TOPICS TO BE COVERED:
a. Transaction analyzing, journalizing and posting to ledgers.
b. The cycle of actions required to identify, record and
summarize financial transactions of
a simple business
enterprise.
c. Managing and accounting for cash receipts, payments
and
merchandise inventories.
d. Determining and recording financial effects of internal
value changes within the business.
e. Preparing financial statements.
f. Accounting for receivables and payables.
g. Inventory valuation and cost of goods sold.
h. Fixed asset valuation and depreciation.
i. Payroll accounting.
j. Partnership accounting.

Fundamental Accounting Principles 16th edition by Larson,Wild &
Chiapetta with working papers and Study
Guide.
Practice set Thunder Mountain Snowmobile is due by
April 30, 2002.

8. TESTS AND QUIZZES:
All tests and exams must be taken on the date specified.
If
you will not be able to take an exam on the date planned,
you must notify the professor prior to exam date, otherwise
you will get ZERO in that exam.
9. ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
Dishonesty and plagiarism will not be tolerated and will
be
dealt with according to the rules of the College.
10.GRADING SYSTEM:
Final grade will be determined as follows:

Class work and homework problems must be done
before coming
to class. Solutions to class work and homework
problems will
be discussed in class and students will be
asked to present
his/her answers/solutions to these problems.
12. STUDENT INPUT AND ATTENDANCE:
Reading the chapters assigned, 100% attendance and
effective
class participation are essentials of getting good
grade.
If you miss 30% or more of classes you will get
an F
in the course. If for any reason you cannot complete
the
