The SDV elective is a required course for each of our degree programs.
The Loudoun Campus offers a number of possible options to fulfill
this academic requirement, which include SDV 100, SDV 295 and SDV
298. Please consult your Schedule of Classes to see
the various formats and topics offered each semester.
SDV 100 - NEW STUDENT SEMINAR: Designed for students in their first
semester of attendance. Topics include campus resources and college
adjustment skills.
SDV 100 - SELF-INSTRUCTIONAL: Web based course, appropriate for students who prefer flexible
schedules and limited required meeting times. Topics include campus
resources and college adjustment skills for new or returning students.
SDV 100 - JOB SEARCHING SKILLS: Topics include self-assessment, career
exploration, resume writing, and job seeking strategies.
SDV 100 - SEMI-INDEPENDENT: For IST majors only. Topics include campus
resources, study skills, and IST career planning/course selection.
SDV 100 - COLLEGE SUCCESS SKILLS FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES: Topics
will include college/community resources, self-advocacy skills, learning
styles, and related college success skills.
SDV 100 - COLLEGE SUCCESS SKILLS: Topics include time management, study
skills, career/academic planning, and wellness issues.
SDV 295 - TOPICS IN: CAREER COUNSELING: This independent study course provides
students with individual career counseling, with a focus on
self-assessment and career research activities.
SDV 298 - PLACE WORKSHOP: Course is designed for the student who
is interested in receiving college credit for life/work
experience. In this class you will learn the process of
developing a portfolio which will articulate and document your
experiential learning.
