Arab-Israeli Conflict
Secretary of State Colin Powell returned home from his Middle East peace mission that took him around the region, meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Palestinian leader Yassar Arafat. After many days of intense negotiation, Powell left the region without a peaceful resolution. Even so, President Bush praised the mission, and said he wouldn't be deterred from the quest of a peaceful Middle East.
"We are confronting hatred that is centuries old, disputes that have lingered for decades," Bush said. But he vowed to continue to lead toward a vision of peace. President Bush stressed the responsibilities of all nations involved to work toward that goal.
