2. Where is the library located?
The Loudoun Campus Library is located in room LR249 of the Reynolds Building (LR, brown brick building, north of the pond).
3. What is the

5. What
do I need to check out materials?
Students
need a student photo Identification card to check out materials. Student ID cards
may be obtained from the Business Office.
Community patrons
(non-students) may also obtain a community patron library card by completing
a short application.
7. Where
do I pick up my library card?
Student photo identification
cards serve as library cards. Student ID photos are taken by the
photographer located in the Business office, LR241. Community patrons (non-students) obtain
library cards at the Circulation Desk.
8. How many
campuses make up (NVCC) Northern Virginia Community College?
NVCC is currently made up
of 6 campuses (Alexandria, Annandale, Loudoun, Manassas, Medical
Education Center, and Woodbridge)
and the (ELI) Extended Learning Institute.
9. Is the
NVCC student identification card/library card valid at all 5 campuses?
Yes, students may
check out or return items at any NVCC campus.
10. Can
I use my NVCC library card at George Mason University?
The NVCC photo
identification card is valid at George
Mason University. You must
also provide a current enrollment receipt or schedule.
11. How
do I find out what books are available?
Search various
catalogs using the links provided.
12. Are
videos included in the library's collection?
Yes, we have videos in
our collection. To determine if we have the video you need, consult the
library catalog. Perform an Advanced Keyword Search, type the topic, and
select Audio visual. Videos circulate for one-week periods unless they
are on reserve.
13. How
long may I keep items?
Books circulate
for 3 weeks.
Magazines, videos,
compact discs circulate for 1 week.
You may
renew your materials online.
14. Do you
have interlibrary loan?
Interlibrary loan
is available at the discretion of the librarian. Contact Jennifer Reynolds

15. How
can I get books or magazine articles another NVCC campus?
Library items (books,
magazines, audio visual) from other campuses may be
requested online.
Forms are available
near public workstations.
Intercampus loan
for books is free.
Allow 2-3 working
days for Intercampus loan items to arrive.
16. What
does it mean when the faculty member says "It is on reserve in the library?"
Items placed "on
reserve" are held at the Circulation Desk located on the 3rd floor of the
library.
17. Can
I check out items on reserve?
Closed reserve -

Overnight reserve
- may be checked out for 24 hours
Three day reserve
- may be checked out for 3 days
Reserve fines --- $1.00 per day
18. Where
can I ask questions?
Patrons may ask
questions at the Reference Desk located on the 2nd floor of the library
and the Circulation Desk located on the 3rd floor of the library.
19. What
is the charge for printing/copying?
Computer printers are .10 per page
for students with NVCC photo id card, .15 for all others. Photo copiers available for .15 per page.
20. What
type of assistance is available to disabled students?
Students with disabilities
should contact a librarian and we will provide whatever assistance is necessary
for the student to access library resources.

Math Lab?
The Math Lab is
located in far west corner of the LR building Rm. 204
22. Where are restrooms
located in the library?
Restrooms are located
at the top of the stairs.

is the elevator?
The elevator is
located on the 3rd floor of the library near LR Rm. 303.

Is
there a quiet place to study?
The Quiet Study
Room is located in the southwest corner of the the Library.
25. How can I get email?
Students are given
e-mail accounts once they have registered for classes. For more information,
select the Mail/Web icon on the NVCC
home page.
26. Where
do I look for information once I have a topic?
Basic places to
look for information include: library catalog, magazine and newspaper databases,
and reference sources. If you need assistance at any time, please
ask a librarian or submit your question
electronically.
27. How do I ask
questions when I am working from my home computer?
Select the Online
Reference link (http://www.nvcc.vccs.edu/loudoun/library/emailref.html)
from the Information section of the Loudoun Campus Library home page.
28. How
do I access the library databases from home?
Follow the online
directions to set up remote access. We provide access to all full text library
databases (InfoTrac, ProQuest, Sirs, FirstSearch,Cambridge Scientific).
29. How do I reserve
a circulating title?
Visit the Circulation
Desk (3rd floor) and speak with the library staff member.
30. How do I use
one of the computers in the library?
The library uses a generic log in - see staff member for
assistance.

How do I access the Internet using a computer in the library?
Select the Internet Explorer icon to access the Internet.

How do I access my NVCC email account using a computer in the library?
From the Desktop, select email or Microsoft Outlook to access
your NVCC email account

What software is available on the computers in the library?
The library computers all have the Microsoft Office Suite available. Select Program to
review a list of applications.

Does the Library offer an after hours Book Drop?
Yes, the Book Drop is located just outside the door near Counseling.
36. What is the policy for using the two Group Study rooms in the library?
37. How do I access the Wireless
network?
Wireless connections are available throughout the campus, including the
library.

38. Why does the Loudoun library page look different from the
NVCC Library Web page?
The Loudoun library site coordinates with library instruction on the Loudoun
campus.
