The Writing Center conducts English 199, a Supervised Study class, during the spring and fall semesters. This 12-week course provides students an opportunity to regularly meet with a writing tutor one hour per week. English 199 is an ideal supplement to any English or writing class, especially English 111 or English 112.
To make the most of English 199, students should prepare a working draft for each tutoring session and review the many questions our tutorial staff may ask during the meeting. Please plan to work on one essay per session and understand that the staff will not edit your paper for spelling, punctuation or grammar. English tutors are happy to assist students with questions about organization, form and structure.
Since it is a one-credit course, students enrolled in English 199 will earn a letter grade for their effort. This grade is based on regular attendance and course participation. Students must attend weekly tutorial sessions and demonstrate consistent, strong effort throughout the semester.
Students interested in taking advantage of this supervised study program should consult the class schedule and register for the class. Soon after registering, visit the coordinator in the Writing Center to discuss course requirements and establish a convenient schedule.
