In order to receive NOVA’s certificate in Historical Preservation, students must complete eight courses (24 credit hours) worth of study in the field. At least five courses (15 credit hours) must come from the list of "Core Classes". All students are required to complete English 111. The remaining three courses (9 credits) can comprise either the remaining "Core Classes" or courses drawn from the "Elective Classes" listed below. All students are strongly encouraged to complete an internship (HIS 199).

Incoming certificate students with a previous academic background in the field may transfer up to 15 credits worth of related coursework with the approval of the Historic Preservation Program Head. Students entering the program with an associate degree or higher do not need take English 111.
