| The Loudoun Campus
of Northern Virginia Community College has developed an extensive
program that uses the workplace environment as the basis for
English language instruction.
By using NVCC's Work Force ESL Program,
area employers have extended their training to those excellent
employees whose only shortcoming is limited English.
Employers:
 |
Improve customer service. |
 |
Retain valued employees. |
 |
Use learning as a business
strategy. |
Employees:
 |
Improve their
understanding of spoken English. |
 |
Speak English with confidence
and commitment. |
 |
Improve the clarity and accuracy
of their spoken English. |
 |
Improve their English reading
and writing abilities. |
HOW
DOES THIS WORK?
There are two ways that employers can
help their employees gain the critical language skills they
need.
The Program comes to you.
The Coordinator will meet with your management
and human resource team to establish your goals and particular
needs.
Your employees will be evaluated and a sequential
curriculum will be developed to target those departments and
those specific areas where your need is greatest.
Experienced ESL instructors will come to
your work site at a regular time that you establish to provide
classroom instruction. Regular updates will be given to you.
Your employees come to us.
You sponsor individual employees who enroll
as students through our normal ESL program. Classes are often
offered that use the normal work site, its terminology, skills,
and requirements as the basis for beginning and intermediate
instruction. At the more advanced levels, instruction in office
software, writing for the workplace, and business strategies
is also available.
Projects and studies are designed to meet
the specific needs of the business world of Northern Virginia.
This is an ideal way for small
businesses.
