STEP 1. Apply For Admission - LC 246
Students must be admitted to the college to have an official Credit Evaluation.  To be admitted to the college, complete the Application for Admission and the Application for In-State Tuition (if appropriate) and submit to the Admissions Office, LC 246.  These forms are available in LC 246, the College Catalog, the current Schedule of Classes, and on our website:

STEP 2. Be Program Placed - LC 253

To be eligible to apply for Advanced Standing (Credit Evaluation), a student must be officially program placed in a curricular program.   Students are encouraged to meet with a counselor to discuss their chosen curriculum.  Walk-in advising is available during advertised hours.  During non-registration times, individual appointments are available with counselors to discuss more in-depth issues.  Call (703) 450-2571,  TDD: (703) 450-2548 for appointment or walk-in hours.

STEP 3. Fill out Request for Evaluation of Transcript Form - LC 246
Students must initiate a formal request to have transcripts or other academic work evaluated and submit the request to the Admissions and Records office, LC 246.  Be sure to include the program name on your request as evaluations are based on your specific program of choice.  The evaluation of transcripts is intended as a means for credentialing students or providing documentation for job promotions, etc.  Students must have completed at least one course at NVCC before an official transcript reflecting transfer credit will be issued

STEP 4. Official Transcript(s) Required

Only official transcripts, CLEP/Dantes scores will be evaluated.  An official transcript is one that has the seal of the institution, and has been mailed directly to the Admissions and Records office.  Credit is transferable from colleges and universities that are accredited by the Commission on Colleges or Commission on Higher Education of the regional accrediting associations.

*Note:  The College accepts international transfer credit only after the College has received an official transcript that has been translated into English and evaluated course-by-course by an evaluating agency.  The transcript must be evaluated using resource materials approved by the National Council for the Evaluation of Foreign Education.  Applications for evaluation of Foreign Educational Credentials through World Evaluation Services, Inc. are available on their web site at www.wes.org or in the Admissions and Records office, LC 246.

Credits may also be awarded through institutionally administered exams, portfolios, ACE recommendations, CLEP, AP, Tech Prep., DD 214, DD 295, and posted as course equivalent credit on official transcripts.

STEP 5. Results of Evaluation

Once the evaluation has been completed and placed on a student’s electronic record, a copy is mailed to the student.  Any questions regarding the results of a transcript evaluation,  should be directed to the Admissions and Records office at (703) 450-2501, LC 246.

If you have any questions regarding how transfer credits apply to a program, please contact the Counseling Center at (703) 450-2571.
