"Recent Works", Quilt Art
May 5 - May 30, 2003
I
am a full-time studio art quilter and am primarily self-taught. My formal
education is in sociology and social work, and I was a weaver for many years
before turning to quilting. From the start of my quilting career, I have dyed
and printed all of the fabrics for my collage-like quilts. One of my quilts was
recently acquired by the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian for its permanent
collection. My work is included in Full Deck Art Quilts and Quilt 21, currently
travelling, and recent exhibits including solo exhibits at Glenview Mansion
Gallery, Rockville MD, The Landmark at Eastgate, Tarrytown NY and Georgetown
University Law Center, Washington DC, and juried and invitational exhibits
including Craft Forms 2001, Wayne Art Center, Wayne PA, Manhattanville College,
Purchase NY, and Longview Museum of Fine Art, Longview TX . Recent publications
include Women in the Arts magazine (published by the National Museum of Women in
the Arts), Texltilkunst (a German fiber arts magazine) and The Art Quilt (Robert
Shaw, Hugh Lauter Levin Publishers). I am a recipient of a 2001 Individual
Artist Award in Craft from the Maryland State Arts Council, and First Prize in
Fiber, Creative Crafts Council Biennial, MD, 2001.
