Sample Assignments

Provided below are examples of assignments ESL students have done in the library. The exercises and handouts used during library instruction are included. The exercises and handouts were developed by librarians, working collaboratively with ESL instructors, in response to specific assignments. Feel free to download these exercises and handouts, and adapt them to suit your own classes' needs.

ESL 002

Class assignment (AL): Students need to find information about a famous person, a state, or a country.

Class assignments (LO): Include Biographies, Inventions, Movie Presentations, and Tourist Attractions

ESL 005/006

Class assignment (AL): Students need to find background information related to the novel they are reading.

Class assignments (LO): Include Finding and analyzing an article from a periodical (005) and Using the catalog, online indexes, and Writing Center web page (006)

Class assignment (AL): Students need to find information about a variety of topics for their informational speeches.
