Although day-to-day computer use is usually uneventful, disagreeable events are happening almost daily that can be prevented. Security awareness means understanding the various threats that exist in one's environment and taking reasonable steps to guard against them.

The key to successful information security is you. Studies show that most breaches of computer security are the result of something a computer user did or failed to do.

Taking the steps necessary to ensure information security is everyone’s responsibility at NOVA. The state requires that all state employees participate in IT security awareness training every year. This training site will provide you with valuable information about best practices, policies, and procedures for ensuring secure information systems at NOVA, so you can enjoy a safe computing environment.

When you have reviewed all of the materials on the site, then click on the online Agreement Form linkfound at the end of the Resources section and do the following:

Completing and submitting the online IT Security Awareness Acceptance Form documents that you have read and understood the information provided on this site.

Remember that it is your responsibility to review this training site and complete the IT Security Awareness Agreement at least once every year to ensure that the NOVA community works in a safe computing environment.
