Security Alert: Paypal Phishing Scam

The below email email is an example of a phishing attempt that appears to come from Paypal that is being sent to NVCC email addresses. As with many phishing emails, it threatens to delete or ‘suspend’ your Paypal account if you do not respond. These emails are attempting to steal your information by appearing to be legitimate requests. If you receive one of these phishing emails delete it immediately.

Monday, September 22 at 7:30 a.m., students will begin to use the new VCCS provided Google Apps for Education email system.  Email addresses for everyone will remain the same. All faculty will have VCCS email account, too, but this is not your official NOVA email account. Your Outlook account remains your official NOVA email account.

NOTE:

  • Any emails exchanged with students on the student email system between 5 PM Friday night and 7:30 AM Monday morning may be delayed in appearing for students on the new Google Apps for Education email system.
  • However, emails will be cued and the students should be able to see all of their weekend emails in their new Google accounts by Wednesday morning at the latest. 
  • Accommodations may be needed where assignment deadlines are involved.

VCCS Scheduled Outage: My VCCS, Student Email, Online Admissions App

Beginning 12:00AM, Thursday, October 2, 2008, and ending 3:00AM, October 2, 2008, VCCS engineers will be performing scheduled maintenance and upgrades to the Directory Services database server. As a result, users will be unable to access My VCCS, Student Email and the Online Admissions application during the 3-hour outage window.

VCCS has added 4 new servers to handle the load of 12 colleges starting fall today. Systems came back on line a little before 1 pm and performance is expected to improve throughout the afternoon.

My.vccs (NovaConnect) is currently unavailable. VCCS Engineers are working to resolve the problem. During the outage period users can access Blackboard and Student Email through the following URLs:

Loudoun Campus \ Reston Center: Power Outage - UPDATE | posted 8/19/2008

At this time, Loudoun Campus (LO) and Reston Center are without network and telephone services as a result of the power outage that occurred at LO this afternoon.  ITSS Engineers continue to work to resolve the problem.  Currently, there is no estimated time to restoration of services.

Loudon Campus is currently experiencing intermittent network and telecom services as a result of a power outage.  ITSS Engineers are currently investigating the cause of the outage.  There is no estimated time to resolution of this issue at present.  We will send an update when we receive additional information.


Blackboard 7:  Scheduled Outage 10PM Sat, 8/9/08 - 10PM Sun, 8/10/08

Beginning Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 10:00 PM, and ending on Sunday, August 10, 2008 at 10:00 PM, VCCS will be performing upgrades to Blackboard 7.  Blackboard 7 will not be available to users during this 24-hour outage period.


Manassas Campus: Network Outage in Progress - RESOLVED | posted 7/21/208

ITSS Engineers and campus support personnel have resolved the network outage at Manassas Campus. All network services including email, internet and telecoms, have been restored.

Manassas Campus is currently experiencing a network outage. All network services, including internet and email are not available at this time. Campus Support is working with B&G to determine if the outage is the result of a power loss. There is currently no estimated time to restoration of network services.


Alexandria Campus:  Network Outage Notice, Sunday July 13

The Alexandria Campus network will be unavailable during multiple periods of time between 8am and 2pm this Sunday, July 13, so that 2 new Uninterruptible Power Supplies can be installed to replace older equipment in the main communications room and the server room.

 

For anyone who is on campus during that time on Sunday, computers and phones will be affected.  Computers will not be able to access the Internet, e-mail and local resources, and the phones will also be unavailable


Online Admissions Scheduled Outage: 8PM, Mon, 6/30/08 - 9PM, Thu, 7/03/08

Beginning today, Monday, June 30, 2008, and ending Thursday, July 3, 2008, VCCS will be performing setup changes and application updates to the Online Admissions servers. As a result of this maintenance, Students and Online Admissions Staff will not be able to access the Online Admissions application for one hour on each of these four (4) days between 8:00PM and 9:00 PM.

VCCS Engineers have resolved the problem affecting its applications services this morning.  All VCCS applications are now available to users via their single sign-on.
