Microsoft, working with our ITTS Engineers, has resolved the NVCC domain issue that prevented NVCC LAN password administration. NVCC LAN passwords can now be reset or unlocked as needed. ELI has experienced a power outage. As a result, there are currently no services at ELI, including telecom, internet and network. Dominion Power is working to resolve the problem and restore services at ELI. There is currently no estimated time to resolution of this issue. We will send an update when we have additional information.
On Tuesday, December 20, 2011, beginning at 2:00 AM and ending at 6:00 AM, VCCS engineers will be performing a critical memory upgrade to the Blackboard database server in order to meet the demands of expected spring semester traffic.
Blackboard, including its direct link, learn.vccs.edu, will be unavailable during this 4 hour outage window.
VCCS has determined this window of time offers the least amount of disruption for Blackboard users. The upgrade is expected to be fairly straightforward, but, will require a full Blackboard outage of approximately 4 hours to complete.
Please plan accordingly for this scheduled Blackboard outage.
AN campus has experienced a power outage. As a result, there may be some interruption in services including web mail and voicemail. Dominion Electric is currently working to resolve the issue. There is currently no estimation to restoration of services that may be impacted by the AN campus outage.

VCCS will monitor Blackboard performance throughout the day. ------------------------------- We have received several calls from users who are unable to view their current classes and\or rosters in Blackboard. We have logged a ticket with VCCS for troubleshooting. We will send an update as soon as we get additional information.

Per VCCS, the network issue that was causing access issues with VCCS applications has been resolved. ----------------------------------- VCCS is reporting current network problems in the Richmond area. As a result, users MAY experience intermittent access issues with all VCCS applications including: Blackboard, SIS (Student Information System), AIS, Student Email, etc. VCCS Engineers are working with Verizon to resolve the problem.
ITSS engineers will be installing a patch to SharePoint servers on Monday, October 10, 2011 between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM. As a result, SharePoint will not be available to users during this 1 hour maintenance window.

As a result, the Power outages by Dominion and Gilbane (construction company) have been rescheduled for a third time. Please be advised JBG Companies will be performing mandatory Electrical Preventive Maintenance at the Reston International Center building on Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 6:00 AM - 7:00 PM. All classes have been notified and moved to Signal Hill or Loudoun.
During this time, no electricity will be provided to the Reston International Center building. This preventive maintenance is required to ensure the building's internal electrical equipment is free of damage, is working properly and will not affect safe day to day operations. For your safety, the building will be locked and access will not be permitted during this scheduled 13 hour power outage.
The following steps should be taken several hours before the planned electrical outage:
· Back up and turn off all computers, networks, and other vital electrical equipment to protect them from electrical power surges

Per NOVA engineers, this problem has been resolved. All network, internet and telephone services have been restored to Reston Center.
All student service and administration offices will be closed on Friday, September 30, 2011 for Student Services Convocation.

Late Friday night we were informed that the IT Help Desk telephone number(703.426.4141) was no longer working due to a faulty optic cable. Chat and email were unaffected during the telephone outage and remain available.
The problem that caused the outage has now been resolved and 24 hour telephone support service is now restored.

VCCS has resolved the issue and Blackboard is currently available. They will continue to monitor Blackboard throughout the remainder of the this evening.
Users are currently unable to access Blackboard. VCCS is aware and investigating the problem. We will send more information when it becomes available.
When you received your student Google email account (@email.vccs.edu), you also received access to Google Docs, Sites, Calendar, and Start Page through it. If you wanted to use a different Google service (for example, Blogger) other than these items, you had to access it at google.com but you still could set it up with your @email.vccs.edu account. While these accounts use the same email address, they are really two different accounts--one you use with email.vccs.edu services and one you use with other google.com services. If you are a user who currently accesses other Google programs in this way, you will notice the following change.
On or around August 22, Google is going to “break” the tie between your two accounts. The next time you log into google.com to access your extra services, you will be prompted to specify a different account for the association. This can be any Google account you have (or, new one you create), other than your @email.vccs.edu account. Going forward, you will use the new association to access those extra services you have already set up. There is no change in the current My NOVA (NOVA Connect) single sign-on process; and, creating the new association will not delete any of your previously saved data.
Blackboard is now available. Service was restored about 11:15 last night.
Beginning Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 3:00 PM and ending Sunday, August 7, 2011 at 6:00 AM, VCCS will be performing an upgrade to the to the Oracle database.

The Manassas Campus will be Closed on Friday, July 8, 2011. This emergency closure is due to a planned electrical interruption relating to the ongoing construction at the campus . The closure also includes Innovation Park.
The Manassas Campus will resume normal operations on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 6:00am. The Human Resources Department will be in contact with the faculty and staff at that campus to provide more specific guidance as it pertains to HR issues.

Due to the FY2011 fiscal year end processing, eVA/AIS requisition and P.O. integrations will be suspended on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 5:00 PM.
VCCS has asked all colleges to refrain from entering requisitions/purchase orders into eVA after the scheduled suspension date and time.
VCCS anticipates the integration processing between eVA/AIS will resume on Tuesday, July 5, 2011.
VCCS reports that the Blackboard issue has been resolved and Blackboard is now available.
Blackboard went down last night at about 10:30 pm. VCCS engineers were able to bring it back up this morning for a short time. Unfortunately, Blackboard went down again this morning and is currently unavailable. VCCS technical staff are working to resolve the problem. There is currently no estimation to the restoration of Blackboard.
