VCCS Scheduled Outage: SIS & Online Application Systems - 10/31/09, 12:00pm - 8:00pm VCCS users will be unable to access SIS production and the Online Application during the implementation of archiving. VCCS Scheduled Outage: SIS database server - 10/22/09, 12:00am - 4:00am Users will be unable to access all VCCS applications including SIS, AIS, Blackboard, Student Email and MyVCCS during the 4 hour outage window. VCCS Scheduled Outage: VA Wizard Web Application - 10/18/09, 6:00am - 10:00am VCCS users will be unable to access the VA Wizard Web Application during the outage window noted above. ITS Engineers will be releasing new functionality in Wizard 1.1 version. VCCS Scheduled Outage: SIS database server - 10/16/09, 4:00pm - 6:00pm The On-line Admissions Application will be unavailable during the outage window noted. Please save applications prior to 4:00 PM and log off. VCCS Scheduled Outage: SIS server - 10/4/09, 7:00am - 11:00am VCCS users will be unable to access SIS Production during this outage window. ITS staff will be applying Bundle 21. VCCS Scheduled Outage: Blackboard - 9/24/09, 12:01am - 4:00am VCCS users may experience a brief outage during the period noted above. ITS Engineers will be performing maintenance on Blackboard Production. VCCS Scheduled Outage: MY VCCS - 6/11/09, 12:01am - 2:00am Beginning Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 12:01 AM, and ending Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 2:00 AM, VCCS will be performing scheduled service maintenance to MY VCCS (MyNova, NovaConnect). As a result, users will be unable to access Blackboard, Student Email, etc, via their single sign-on to MY VCCS during the 2 hour outage window. During the outage, users may be able to access Blackboard through the following link: http://learn.vccs.edu Alexandria Campus Telephone Issues 4/10/09 3:00 p.m. The Alexandria Campus is currently experiencing telephone issues. Verizon is working to resolve the problem. There is currently no estimated time to restoration of the telephones at Alexandria Campus. We will send an update when more information becomes available. As a result, users will be unable to access SIS 8.9 Production during this 10½ hour outage. VCCS Outage: Google Student Email Currently Unavailable 2/18/09 VCCS: Blackboard Scheduled Outage - 2/05/09, 12 AM - 2/05/08, 6 AM Beginning Thursday, February 5, 2009, at 12:00 AM and ending on Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 6:00 AM, VCCS will be performing maintenance and upgrades to Blackboard 8. Blackboard 8 will not be available to users during this 6-hour outage period. VCCS Scheduled Outage: All Applications – 12AM, 11/20/08 – 1AM, 11/20/08 Beginning 12:00 AM Thursday, November 20, 2008 and ending 1:00 AM Thursday, November 20, 2008, VCCS will be performing upgrades to the Firewalls at Feathersone and the System Office. As a result, all VCCS applications, including NovaConnect (SIS 8.9), My VCCS, Online Application, Google E-mail, Blackboard, AIS, etc., will be unavailable during this one hour outage window. VCCS: Blackboard Scheduled Outage - 12/04/08, 12 AM - 12/04/08, 7 AM Beginning 12:00 AM Thursday, December 4, 2008 and ending 7:00 AM Thursday December 4, 2008, VCCS will be performing upgrades to Blackboard. As a result, Blackboard will not be available to users during this seven hour outage window. VCCS: Some Colleges Reporting Slow Internet Connectivity - RESOLVED Internet connectivity appears to have been restored. VCCS Engineers are continuing to work with Verizon to investigate the cause. VCCS: Some Colleges Reporting Slow Internet Connectivity VCCS has received reports from several colleges that internet connectivity is slow. VCCS ITS Engineers are currently investigating the problem. VCCS: Blackboard Outage In Progress - RESOLVED VCCS has resolved the Blackboard issue, which resulted in a 30 minute outage. Blackboard is now available to all users. VCCS Scheduled Outage: My VCCS, Google Email - 10/23 12:00 AM - 4:00 PM Beginning 12:00AM, Thursday, October 23, 2008, and ending 4:00AM, October 23, 2008, VCCS engineers will be performing scheduled upgrades to the MyVCCS database. As a result, users will be unable to access My VCCS, and Google Student Email during this 4-hour outage window. VCCS: Interruption of Applications Services – RESOLVED | Posted 6/19/2008 1:25pm VCCS Engineers have resolved the problem affecting its applications services this morning. All VCCS applications are now available to users via their single sign-on. Webmail Server Outage - Resolved ITSS engineers have resolved the Webmail server issue and service has been restored. Contact the IT Helpdesk if you are still unable to login to the college email system. Issue Reported 12/12/2008, 8:30a.m. As of this morning some faculty and staff are unable to access their campus email through the webmail service. This is due to a downed webmail server. ITSS Engineers are currently investigating the cause of the outage. There is no estimated time to resolution of this issue at present. The Medical Education Campus network outage has been resolved If any problems reoccur please first reboot your machine then, if the problem persists please call the IT Helpdesk and log an issue ticket The Medical Education Campus is currently experiencing intermittent network services ITSS Engineers are aware and are rapidly working to resolve the issue. There is no estimated time to resolution of this issue at present. We will send an update when we receive additional information. Annandale Campus Currently Reporting Intermittent Network Issue – RESOLVED ITSS Engineers have resolved the network issue at Annandale campus. Normal system performance has been restored to all services. Annandale Campus Currently Reporting Intermittent Network Issue Annandale campus is currently experiencing an intermittent network issue that is causing slowness. Although there are currently no reports of outages, the system is slow. ITSS Engineers are aware of the problem and are working to restore system performance. |

VCCS Scheduled Outage: My VCCS, Student Email, Online Admissions App Beginning 12:00AM, Thursday, October 2, 2008, and ending 3:00AM, October 2, 2008, VCCS engineers will be performing scheduled maintenance and upgrades to the Directory Services database server. As a result, users will be unable to access My VCCS, Student Email and the Online Admissions application during the 3-hour outage window. My.VCCS (NovaConnect) Outage - RESTORED | posted 8/25/2008, 2:50p.m. VCCS has added 4 new servers to handle the load of 12 colleges starting fall today. Systems came back on line a little before 1 pm and performance is expected to improve throughout the afternoon. My.VCCS (NovaConnect) Outage | posted 8/25/2008, 11:00a.m. My.vccs (NovaConnect) is currently unavailable. VCCS Engineers are working to resolve the problem. During the outage period users can access Blackboard and Student Email through the following URLs: Loudoun Campus \ Reston Center: Power Outage - UPDATE | posted 8/19/2008 At this time, Loudoun Campus (LO) and Reston Center are without network and telephone services as a result of the power outage that occurred at LO this afternoon. ITSS Engineers continue to work to resolve the problem. Currently, there is no estimated time to restoration of services. Loudoun Campus: Power Outage | posted 8/19/2008 Loudon Campus is currently experiencing intermittent network and telecom services as a result of a power outage. Blackboard 7: Scheduled Outage 10PM Sat, 8/9/08 - 10PM Sun, 8/10/08 Beginning Saturday, August 9, 2008 at 10:00 PM, and ending on Sunday, August 10, 2008 at 10:00 PM, VCCS will be performing upgrades to Blackboard 7. Blackboard 7 will not be available to users during this 24-hour outage period. Manassas Campus: Network Outage in Progress - RESOLVED | posted 7/21/208 ITSS Engineers and campus support personnel have resolved the network outage at Manassas Campus. All network services including email, internet and telecoms, have been restored. Manassas Campus: Network Outage in Progress | posted 7/21/208 Manassas Campus is currently experiencing a network outage. All network services, including internet and email are not available at this time. Campus Support is working with B&G to determine if the outage is the result of a power loss. There is currently no estimated time to restoration of network services. Alexandria Campus: Network Outage Notice, Sunday July 13 The Alexandria Campus network will be unavailable during multiple periods of time between 8am and 2pm this Sunday, July 13, so that 2 new Uninterruptible Power Supplies can be installed to replace older equipment in the main communications room and the server room.
For anyone who is on campus during that time on Sunday, computers and phones will be affected. Computers will not be able to access the Internet, e-mail and local resources, and the phones will also be unavailable Online Admissions Scheduled Outage: 8PM, Mon, 6/30/08 - 9PM, Thu, 7/03/08 Beginning today, Monday, June 30, 2008, and ending Thursday, July 3, 2008, VCCS will be performing setup changes and application updates to the Online Admissions servers. As a result of this maintenance, Students and Online Admissions Staff will not be able to access the Online Admissions application for one hour on each of these four (4) days between 8:00PM and 9:00 PM. |

Woodbridge Campus Power Outage: Closed Monday, 6/23/2008 As a result of sever weather, Woodbridge Campus (WO) has experienced a power outage. There are currently no services available. ERROR MESSAGE: Enrollment Transaction – RESOLVED | posted 5/28/2008 7:30am VCCS has resolved the problem that caused an error message yesterday when users attempted to enroll students via the Enrollment Request and Quick Enroll pages. If you experience continued connectivity issues, please contact the IT Help Desk VCCS Network: Service Interruption Woodbridge External Telephone Service Outage Woodbridge Campus is currently unable to receive external telephone calls. Inclement Weather Closings Due to the Inclement Weather Condition today January 17, 2008 some of the colleges have closed and cancelled day/night classes. Scheduled SIS 8.9 Outage: 1/20/08, 6:30AM - 10:30AM Sporadic NVCC Network Outages: All Campuses - Resolved Blackboard: Slow Response - Resolved Blackboard 7 Production has been performing slowly today. It has received an approximate 40% usage increase over the peak hours for the Fall 2007 semester. VCCS Engineers believe that they have tracked the problem down to a portal module. They have disabled this module and the problem is gradually resolving itself. However, Blackboard performance is still somewhat slow and VCCS Engineers are continuing to work on improving performance. Blackboard Update If you are taking a Spring 08 course that will use Blackboard, you will not be able to access any Blackboard Spring 08 courses until after January 10. AIS Password Reset Issue - Resolved The issues related to AIS user password resets failing with blank pages in browser windows and AIS security page problems in MyVCCS should be fixed now. Corrective measures were made at 11am Friday morning and current reports indicate that the issue are resolved. AIS Password Reset Issue VCCS is experiencing an AIS password reset problem. AIS users who have either forgotten their password, or had it expire, are currently unable to reset their passwords. VCCS Engineers are aware of the problem and are looking for its root cause and solution. As a temporary work-around, VCCS is resetting the flag which indicates a password has expired to allow for an extra 20 days of password activity. This will prevent passwords from expiring while the problem is being worked on. For users who have forgotten their password, please call the IT Help Desk. This morning Loudoun Campus experienced an outage in telephone service. All telephone service has been restored to the campus, except at one location due to switch problems. Engineers are working to resolve the switch issue.
Annandale Campus experienced a network power outage this morning that affected all services in the computer core including email, telecom and internet service. As of 10:30 AM, all services have been restored. ITSS Engineers will be monitoring the systems for the remainder of the day. If you experience any continued problems with these services, please call the IT Help Desk. |

Scheduled Student Email Outage: Thursday, 9/27, 3AM – 4AM On Thursday, September 27, beginning at 3:00 AM and ending at 4:00 AM, VCCS will be performing maintenance on the Student Email system. As a result, VCCS students will be unable to access email during the 1-hour outage window. Main Frame / VITA website Outage SIS 8.9 Scheduled Outage: Saturday, 9/15, 4AM - 6:30AM On Saturday, September 15, 2007, VCCS will be performing maintenance on SIS 8.9 (NovaConnect) between 4:00 AM and 6:30 AM. NovaConnect will be unavailable during this two and a half-hour outage period. Blackboard users will be able to access Blackboard through http://learn.vccs.edu. Alexandria Campus: Incoming External Call Service Outage Verizon has restored incoming external (703-845-XXXX) call service. There is still some residual outage of analog telephones and Fax machines. Posted 9.10.07 | 9:34AM As a result of a weekend water leak in the Alexandria Campus main communication room, the electronic cabinets have been disabled. There is currently no incoming or outgoing Fax service; and, no incoming external call service. Alexandria does have incoming, inter-campus 5-digint (1-XXXX) dialing service, however. Verizon has been notified and campus engineers are awaiting their assessment.
