The visa is a stamp which is placed in your passport by a United States Embassy outside the U.S. The visa permits you to apply to enter the U.S. at an airport or border crossing. It is your I-20 Document that allows you to remain in the U.S. as a student.
Obtaining an F-1 Visa
- Apply for the I-20 at the College or University
- Make an appointment at the U.S. Embassy after you learn that you have been admitted
- Pay the SEVIS fee (Student Exchange and Visitor Information Service) of $100. This may be paid online at www.fmjfee.com.
- Go to U.S. Embassy for interview
