Note: DO NOT send email Zipped files. Due to the large number of computer viruses, all emails with Zipped attachments will be blocked. Submitting your materials to any other email address delays your submission and could mean your materials are considered "late" and not able to be included in the applicant pool.

Do I need to apply separately for each position I am interested in?
Yes, for each individual position a separate application is required. You may supplement your Commonwealth of Virginia application with a resume, but an application is required.

Faculty applicants need to submit separately for each position: (1) a completed Commonwealth of Virginia application, (2) resume or C/V, (3) cover letter, not more than two pages (4) copies of transcripts from all graduate coursework, unofficial copies are acceptable for initial review. Foreign transcripts must be provided already translated. (5) Three letters of recommendation.

Will Human Resources contact me to confirm receipt of my application?
No, we do not send out any sort of confirmations.

Where can I find out about open positions?
A listing of NOVA positions can be found on the Web at www.nvcc.edu/hr under "employment opportunities". A written list can be obtained from the human resources department or the business office on any of the campuses.

Is advertising and recruiting for all of the campuses done through Human Resources?
Yes, HR does the recruiting for every campus. If you are interested in a job on any of our campuses, you must submit your state application to Human Resources.

Where can I get a state application?

  • The state application can be downloaded from the Web on our website www.nvcc.edu/hr under "employment application."
  • Use Microsoft Word format for the best download. Once downloaded, you may type on the form, save it to your computer, and then attach it to an email for submission.
  • The state application can also be obtained from any state agency such as DMV, VDOT, ABC stores, most local libraries, NOVA Human Resources Department or the business office at any of the college campuses.

Where do I send my application/resume?
All state applications/resumes should be sent to Human Resources Department. A state application is required for each position that you apply for, and you need to identify on the application the position for which you are applying.

What is the usual recruiting process?
To submit the state application into the Human Resources Department. A couple days after the closing date for a position all the applications will be sent over to the appropriate hiring department for review. Within two to four weeks the department will contact you by telephone, if your are chosen for an interview. Please see the procedure page for further details.

Do I need to send an original application in the mail if I submit the application via fax or email?
If you have submitted a state application via email or fax, you do not need to send the original application in the mail. You will be asked to sign the email or fax application if you are called in for an interview.

What documentation is needed to apply for a job?
The state application must be submitted for each position you wish to be eligible for. You can supplement the state application with your resume (optional). At the time of application, you do not need to submit further documentation unless it is requested in the job announcement.

How long will it be until I hear about the job?
Usually within 2 - 4 weeks after the closing date, the hiring department will contact you by telephone if they wish to set-up an interview. You will only be called if you are chosen for an interview. For positions that are "open until filled" you may hear as quickly as a week after your submission. Likewise, you will only be called if you are chosen for an interview.

How can I find out about the status of a position?
For positions that have a closing date -- after the position has closed, an applicant can contact the hiring department directly. Human Resources can tell you if the position has been filled or give you a contact number for the hiring department. For "open until filled" positions, the applications are sent to the hiring department on a weekly basis for their review and action. The hiring department would have the most up to date information as to where they are in their selection process.

If I have an update to my resume or application to whom do I need to send the documentation?
If you need to update your resume/application send the information to Human Resources and we will forward it on to the department. Please note on the updated material that this is new/additional information to be added to a current resume/application and be sure to note the position number on the materials.
