Procedure
to Apply for Vacant Positions
A Virginia
State Employment Application is required
to apply for all positions. You may download a Virginia
Employment Application from this link (use
MS Word 2003 or earlier format--we are not VISTA ready
yet--and save it on your computer; you can
then type on the form, and then submit it via
preferred method of e-mail
attachment). Or, you can pick up an Application form
from any NOVA campus Business Office, the NOVA Human
Resources Office, or any state agency. Note: Materials
submitted without an Application designating the specific
position you are applying for will NOT be considered.
Each position must have its own individual
state Application. Applications must be received in
Human Resources no later than 5pm on the closing date.
On the Application please reference the exact position
title as well as the official position number or code.
-
Staff positions REQUIRE:
a state employment application which can be
supplemented with a resume and cover letter.
-
Full-time Faculty and Administrative Faculty positions REQUIRE: A state
employment application, a cover letter of not more than
two pages, resume or CV, transcripts (unofficial copies
are acceptable for initial review, foreign transcripts
must be evaluated from an accredited evaluation service) of all
post-secondary education. These items may be scanned and
attached to the e-mailed application, with originals
available for any interview scheduled. It is
of course preferred that the application package be
complete and a single-submission. 3
letters of reference may be submitted separate from the
application and must be brought to any scheduled
interview.
-
Adjunct faculty applicants do not
need the three (3) letters of recommendation, but do
require all other application materials (application,
cover letter, resume or CV and unofficial copies of
transcripts) applicable to
faculty. Adjunct faculty positions do not have
position numbers. Instead, indicate the discipline
and campus(es) you are interested in teaching.
To apply for either a faculty or staff
position, please send a state employment application
specifying position title and position number or code:
Preferred method of submission:
- By e-mail to:
Resumes@nvcc.edu.
Using any other e-mail address will result in a
delay of your submission and your may not be
included in the applicant pool if you miss the
closing date. You may also attach or submit
via separate e-mail(s) any other required or
supplemental documents.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT E-MAIL ZIPPED FILES. Zipped files
will be blocked by the server due to viruses. Due
to the profusion of computer viruses, be sure to clearly
specify in the Subject line of your e-mail the name
of the position and position number or code that you
are applying for.
NOTE: Your e-mailed application obviously will not
have an original signature on it. That is not a problem.
If you are called for an interview, at the interview
you will be asked to sign your submission.
Northern Virginia Community
College utilizes an electronic applicant tracking system
based on the optical scanning of your Application. In
order to maximize the possibility of being identified
as a viable employment candidate, you need to prepare
a "scannable" application. Please use white
or very light-colored paper, printed on one side only.
Please use a standard typeface such as Times New Roman,
Courier, or Helvetica. In addition, do not send copies
of your thesis, instructor evaluations, projects, or
other materials. These items can be brought with you
to an interview.
Please note that interviewee will be notified
by phone. Applicants not selected for interview will
not be notified.
