Prerequisite: Art 154 or instructor's permission Course Description: Exploration of decorating techniques used in wheelthrown and/or handbuilt functional and non-functional studio ceramics. Course Objectives: To be able to define, apply and differentiate the various methods of ceramic decoration. Attendance and Grading: See - General Course Information for All Ceramics Courses. Techniques to be Explored: Impressed: Cord, Stamps, Roulettes Slip Decoration: Paper Resist, Sgraffito, Inlay, Trailing, Mocha Resists & Masks
Students should explore decorating various shapes. Cylinders and shallow bowls/plates are a suggested starting point. Some slip decorating techniques require support of the form being decorated. Each student should make a plate/shallow bowl support form that will be bisque fired. |
