Introduction

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the field of dance and cardiovascular training. Emphasis will be placed on improving one's endurance while enjoying dance routines.

General Objectives of the Course

1. To develop a lower resting heart rate and increase one's level of fitness.

2. To tone the body through dance exercises and movements.

3. To learn the various routines with enough understanding to move with a high level of exertion.

4. To help students perform exercise efficiently and correctly.

Requirements of the Course

1. Dress - leotard and tights; T-shirts and slacks; warm-up suits; shorts; athletic shoes and socks are very important for support and comfort.

  

2. Attendance and Participation

Attendance is essential in achieving the course objectives. Students will be evaluated on actively participating in 16 wks. of class. Students are permitted to make up 3 classes for the semester. It is the student's responsibility to arrange for a make-up class, and this should be accomplished within one week of the absence.

Actively participating in class means being dressed for activity when the class is scheduled to begin and participating for the entire class sessions. There will be points deducted for arriving late, leaving early, etc.

Anyone who is injured during a class will be asked to make up the classes missed (maximum of 3) or will be asked to withdraw with a medical excuse from the doctor. No student will be given points for participation if they sit out.

For any student missing more than nine classes, it will be up to the discretion of the instructor whether that student will receive an "F", should withdraw, or be allowed to continue the class. Regular attendance at classes is required. Absences equal to 30% of the scheduled instructional time for a course will be defined as unsatisfactory progress.

If you stop attending class and fail to go through official withdraw procedures, you will receive an "F" in this course.

90 - 100 = A

80 - 89 = B

70 - 79 = C

5. Medical Permission

Although this course is designed for people of various fitness levels, all students should have their doctor's permission to exercise vigorously. Students with special needs should present their doctor's diagnosis and fill out a medical history sheet.
