To erect a perpendicular to a line segment at the extremity of the segment.
Given:  Point B, the extremity of the line segment AB.
Required:  To erect a perpendicular to AB at B
Procedure:

perpendicular at extremity

Choose any point O, not on AB; Use the segment command under the construct menu and construct segment OB.
Use the circle by center + radius command to construct a circle with center O and radius congruent to segment OB.
Label the second point of intersection of the circle with the segment AB, C.
Use the ray command under the construct menu and construct ray CO.
Label point D, the intersection of the ray with the circle.
Use the segment command under the construct menu and construct segment DB.
  DB AB.
Proof:
DBC is a right         ( An inscribed in a semicircle is a right angle.)
DB  AB             (The sides of a right are  to each other.)
Sketch:   On the sketch below, drag point O and explain what is happening.
