To bisect a given arc.
Given:  Arc AB
Required:  To bisect arc AB.
Procedure:

bisect an arc

Use the segment command under the construct menu to construct segment AB.
Construct the perpendicular bisector of segment AB.  This can be accomplished by following the basic perpendicular bisector construction; (help, midpoint) (help,) or by using the tools in Sketchpad which follows:
Select segment AB; use the midpoint command under the construct menu to place a midpoint on AB. Label it D.
Select segment AB and point D; use the command under the construct menu and construct a at D.
Place a point at the intersection of the arc and the bisector, label it C.
Arc AB is bisected at C.
Proof:
CE passes through the center of circle and C bisects arc AB. (The bisector of a chord passes through the center of the circle and bisects the arcs subtended by the chord.)

Sketch:   Change the position of points A and B on the arc of the circle below. Does C still bisect the arc?
