Working environment
Avoid problems! As discussed in the first class session, be sure to change your settings for the Windows Explorer on any computers you use for class work. Review the instructions.
Updated 5 September 2007 Although it is not a requirement for this class, you may find it helpful to use one of the HTML-aware text editors instead of Notepad. Instructions for setting up PSPad.
Occasionally you may be asked to download files for class exercises. Get them at the class download site. (If you have problems getting at the files, read the instructions.) Here you can also find the example files needed for some of the textbook exercises.
Projects and publishing
A major portion of the assignments for this class consists of three projects. The first project will be submitted on diskette, but the second and third projects will be published to the Web. The college provides each of you with personal web space for this purpose; for directions on posting, see www.nvcc.edu/ithd/studentweb.html. We will discuss these requirements in detail during the appropriate class sessions.
If you have technical problems when attempting to publish projects, please contact the NVCC IT Help Desk at 703.426.4141. (I do not have the necessary system privileges to troubleshoot and resolve problems on the college servers.) If you attempt to publish from a computer located behind a corporate firewall, you may encounter difficulties, in which case the work-around is simply to publish from a computer that is not behind the firewall.
