This movie tells the story of
operation Market Garden. A failed attempt by the allies in
the latter stages of WWII to end the war quickly by securing three bridges in

A total of 500,000 feet of footage was filmed and edited down to 17,000 feet. 6,000 complete uniforms were made for American, English, Dutch, German, and Polish troops. The 12 gliders in the drop scene were made completely from scratch costing 35,000 dollars each.
The director went on to win an Oscar for directing Gandhi and was knighted during the production of this movie.
