HIS 122 - Course Objectives
Our goals will be not only to accumulate historical facts, but to exercise the skills a historian needs: maintaining objectivity, suspending judgment, recognizing multiple perspectives, analyzing and evaluating evidence, and synthesizing historical materials. The course will also attempt to demonstrate that through the study of American history, we become more deeply engaged in our own times; we extend democracy through the dimension of time, enfranchising and enlisting our predecessors in the struggle with challenges of the present and future.
