Learning Styles > Types

Kinesthetic learners need to move. They use their bodies to learn. Their learning style connects body and mind. These students:

  • are uncomfortable sitting still
  • do not intend to be disruptive
  • enjoy physical activities
  • learn by doing rather than by listening
  • tend to move their hands and legs when sitting
  • enjoy working with their hands
  • pace when thinking or studying

Recognizing kinesthetic learners helps teachers and parents accept them and tailor lessons to meet their needs, so that these learners can maximize every available learning technique that might help them learn.

Activities for kinesthetic learners include manipulatives (toys), cut and paste, highlighting with colors, games, dance, and other activities which require movement or manipulation of objects.
