Not everyone learns or thinks in the same way.Individual differences or preferences for learning are called learning styles.

Unfortunately, educational institutions value only two learning styles: verbal/linguistic and mathematical/ logical.

Other equally valid learning styles are: visual/spatial, musical/rhythmic, bodily/kinesthetic, intrapersonal, interpersonal, extrovert/introvert, male/female/ adult/child/, naturalist, spiritual, existential, and emotional.

To ensure that all students have an opportunity to learn, teachers should:

  • Assess and identify their own teaching/learning styles
  • Match teaching methods to meet student learning styles and
  • Adjust their teaching style and teaching activities to meet those student needs.
