ITE 115 FTP Instructions using Internet Explorer 8  (IE8)

 

IE8 doesn’t allow simple FTP site access directly within the Internet Explorer browser.  So you must open an FTP site in Windows Explorer, which will allow copy and paste, drag and drop, etc.  See the new directions below:

 

FTP using IE8

 

1.       Use Microsoft Internet Explorer (your browser):

2.       In the browser’s address window, type:  ftp://www.student.nvcc.edu/

3.       Press [Enter]

4.       Log on to the ftp server using your own credentials such as:

 

a.       nvstu\jdsmith32

b.      Type in your password

c.       Press [Enter]  or Click  the Log On button

 

5.       When you see the directory listing of folders, click the down-arrow on the  Page” menu button on the right-hand side of the IE8 browser window and select “Open FTP site in Windows Explorer” near the bottom of the list.
(IMPORTANT!!! Do not click on your folder to open it.)

 

6.        If an error message appears, click “OK”

 

7.       If Windows 7 displays a security message, click the “Allow” button.

 

8.       You will be prompted to log on again—use the same credentials as before.

 

9.       Next, Click on the Web link:   www.student.nvcc.edu

 

10.   Your web folder contents, if any, will be displayed.  You can drag and drop, or copy and paste HTML and other files (such as graphics files) from your computer into this window on the NVCC FTP site.

 

11.   Test your HTML Web page files by using Internet Explorer and my typing in your Web site
