PaintShop Pro is a well known, modestly priced (around $80) graphics package
for Windows that offers, I dunno, maybe 90% of the functionality of the industry
standard Adobe Photoshop (around $600) and more intuitive controls (e.g.
paste commands, ability to work directly in native layered format or target
formats).
A 30-day trial version of PSP can be freely
downloaded. Should you buy
the program, ask about the manual - some download sales only include an online
version of the print manual, which is o.k., as long as you understand this
(my students who bought this package did not). FWIW, I found the print manual
pretty useful as manuals go. Some good comparison shopping sites for software
are www.mysimon.com and
beyond.com.
Below are seven PSP tips sites, ranked by whim early one morning. 98% of
the tips are about how to produce a particular effect; the JASC site seemed
to be the only one to have limited information for new users.
