Interactivity with binary documents

Although binary documents like Word files are not really in the spirit of the web, there may be times when they offer needed capabilities that you can't have in HTML.  Or maybe you just don't have time to convert them, or they don't convert well to HTML.

In any event, if your document is intended for an audience whose software you are sure of - such as an intranet group -  you can connect to non-HTML documents. Results vary depending on browser and settings - Microsoft's Internet Explorer, for example, reads MS Office files without any problems.  Netscape may need a file association set first.
