5/14 and 5/21 were clear favorites for dates; morning/afternoon preferences were 50/50. I chose afternoon on the assumption that some people might be teaching in the morning.

Below are the dates, times, and places to mark on your calendar.

New graphics software users...

...should learn how to use a graphics package to modify existing images and create original graphics.  Creating original graphics would include things like
§ creating text banners
§ adding drop shadows and other effects
§ using digital cameras and scanners

...should receive a software package and book.

I'll start by suggesting (for beginners)
PaintShop Pro (software)
The Non-Designer's Web Book (book)

Other suggestions are welcomed.

...should get some training - say 2 or 3 Friday afternoon sessions soon (April or May), and a followup session in the fall.

Session 1: Graphics basics, intro to the software, finding and using graphics, making original stuff (pt. 1)

Session 2: Making original stuff (pt. 2), scanners, digital cameras, and other stuff

Session 3?: Web design basics - how to pick colors and fonts and lay out pages

Experienced graphics software users...

...should expand their knowledge. Most people have said they want to order new software.  They should be able to do this, and should plan on ordering most whatever they want in software and/or books.  In return, they
...should probably attend the beginners sessions to help out, make friends, build a little community and all

...should write up a web page of what they learned

...should present in the follow-up session in the fall

The followup session....

...in the fall would be "here's what I've learned" presentations. New users to would show what they've been up to, and experienced users would show some of what's out there, what comes after beginning-level software.  It would be about the same time and length as the other sessions. And it would wrap up the grant entirely - everyone likes closure!

The proposal has been roughed out in MS-Word 7 (e.g. you need Word 7 to read it)
