Research topics for EDIT 772

The research you have to do for this course is pretty light.  The reasons I have you do it are

a. the web is a big place, and needs a lot of different viewpoints
b. you learn better when you do stuff yourself, and class is more interesting when more people than the teacher talk
c. this assignment usually works great

To complete your research, you only need to

a. find and review

• a book
• piece of software
• 2 or more web sites
• or something else related to web design

b. make a 5 minute presentation to the class, with some sort of handout or web page.  Your presentation and this handout should give students something useful to walk out of class with - something they could use that evening.

Some sources for your research could include

• anything that you have found helpful
• anything that someone else told you was helpful
• something from my list of technology bookmarks
• something you found through a search engine

Note that your information can be on any aspect of web building, from design to technology to accessibility and elsewhere.  

Since design is always a big problem with new developers, just showing a couple of web sites that you feel are really good could be a good learning experience if you could explain your reasons well enough.  A variation of this would be to pick two similar web sites and explain your judgement of one as superior.
