2010 ANNUAL ART STUDENT JURIED EXHIBITION AND CALLIOPE STUDENT ART AND LITERARY MAGAZINE DATA SHEET ANNANDALE CAMPUS
DATES AND LOCATION OF EXHIBITION: April 5 – April 28, 2010 Richard J. Ernst Community Cultural Center, Verizon Gallery, NVCC, Annandale Campus ELIGILIBILITY: All students taking Art courses on the Annandale Campus are eligible to enter. Works submitted must have been completed while a student at NVCC; they must have been done in the last three years and not have been exhibited in a previous NVCC Annandale juried exhibition or published in Calliope. CATEGORIES: The following categories will be accepted: Ceramics, Computer Graphics, Design, Drawing, Painting, Photography, and Sculpture. The work will be identified and judged by category not by its medium. At the discretion of the Judge cash awards will be given to the works in each category and for certain works selected for publication in Calliope. NUMBER OF ENTRIES: no more than 5 entries. Entries may all be in one category or in several categories but there may be no more than five total entries for this spring’s combined event. SUBMISSION OF ARTWORK AND JUDGING: Entries must be submitted Tuesday March 2 or Wednesday March 3. The entries will be received in Room CM 342. Judging will take place Friday March 5; no entries will be accepted on that day. Either your instructor or another staff member will be available to receive your work. Entries on paper or board don’t need to be framed to be judged, but must be submitted in a sturdy folder or portfolio which must be labeled with your name. All students accepted into the show or for Calliope will be notified by College e-mail beginning Monday March 8, 2010.
The Judge will be: Foon Sham, Professor of Fine Art, at the University of Maryland, College Park.
If your piece(s) is/are accepted into the show it/they must be picked up for framing (if applicable) and subsequently delivered to THE LOWER LEVEL OF THE VERIZON GALLERY on Thursday, April 1, from 9 am to 3 pm.
If your piece(s) is selected into Calliope it will be photographed and you will be notified as to when it should be picked up.
ANY PIECES NOT ACCEPTED can be picked up in CM342 starting Monday March 8, 2010. A list of accepted works will be available there at that time. Any work remaining after May 3, 2010 will become the property of NVCC and may be disposed of as seen fit by the art faculty and/or the Assistant Dean or Dean for Liberal Arts.
CONDITIONS OF ENTRY: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY Flat work accepted into the show must be framed. Failure to frame your work will disqualify you from being in the show. Works accepted into CALLIOPE but not into the Student Show need not be framed but by entering you agree that limited copyright is given to NVCC. All framed work must have screw eyes or other set of fixtures 2” to 4” from the top, capable of being attached to two 5/16” diameter hanging hooks on either side of the frame. Do not attach wire. Paintings on canvas don’t need to be framed, but the canvas should be stapled in the back and screw eyes or similar attached as described above. All information on entry forms must be completed. All works must state a price or be labeled NFS (if a work is NOT FOR SALE) with insurance value noted on entry form. Students must tape the entry form number to the back of each flatwork entry or to the bottom or other discreet location of three dimensional objects. Any entry not meeting the conditions stated above will not be accepted.
NO CHANGES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER ENTRY DATE. ALL WORK MUST REMAIN IN THE SHOW FOR THE FULL DURATION THEREOF.
AWARDS CEREMONY & RECEPTION: Presentation of awards and a reception will take place on Monday April 19, 3 pm to 5 pm in the Richard J. Ernst Community Cultural Center Forum, for honorees, their families, faculty, and staff.
SALES: The Art Program will give your phone number to prospective buyers. There will be no “price on request” designation. All works must be priced or labeled NOT FOR SALE (NFS).
