The NVCC, Annandale Campus, Permanent Art Collection

History of the Annandale Campus Art Collection

The Annandale Campus Art Collection is comprised of paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, and ceramics that have been acquired by the art department since the early 1970’s.  Some of the work was donated to the campus by clubs and organizations, other pieces were gifts from artists who exhibited here by our students.  Many pieces entered the collection thanks to Kathryn Arnow through an annual purchase prize in 1973 she established in memory of her late husband, Philip Arnow, who took art classes at NOVA after a career in the civil service.  In the 1970’s, the Junior Women’s Club of Fairfax donated money for purchase prizes from the Annual Student Shows and The Fairfax County Council of the Arts (now known as the Arts Council of Fairfax County) purchased a number of works from their annual area exhibition that the campus co-sponsored.  The art is distributed throughout the entire campus; displayed in division and faculty offices, conference rooms, lobbies, and the library and testing centers, and grounds.  A number of works on this web site are in storage and available for staff and faculty to display in offices and conference rooms on campus.
