It takes experience to build a good model, this experience should also be base on research, directed toward the study of human anatomy.

Look up other artist's work beginning with mine. In particular look for images showing the model's wire-frame, where you can see how the model was built.

Even though there are no rigid rules concerning how many edges a model should have, your approach should be far from casual.

Notice that the vast majority of the polygon are 4 sided, also wrinkles are triangulate to a dead end, because they obviously do not wrap around the entire anatomy.

You can save the model at different stages of development, so you come back to an older version that you have saved and add details that you have not given to other models.
