Vocabulary

Practice vocabulary using a multisensory approach: understand the word when I heard it. understand the word when I saw it. See the vocabulary word in a picture in my mind when I heard or read it. Learn the correct spelling for the word. Practice saying each word out loud. Write out each word. Attempt to use the vocabulary word in a sentence.
Make use of software in the Foreign Language Computer Center, e.g. *Hola Español, The Rosetta Stone*.

Grammar

Complete pre-reading sections for the *Cultural Section* in the text, and the *Lectura (*character sketch) in the workbook.
Read selection. attempt to get the "gist" without translating. Read three times. Make a personal connection to understand the meaning. If necessary, use a ruler to guide my eyes while reading. Use reading techniques (Checked study skills section for this.) Highlight unknown words and guess at their meanings. As a last resort, look up unfamiliar words in the dictionary if needed. Try not to translate.
Listen to audio tape with audio scripts that referred to the reading section.

Give paper copy to the instructor and classmates to provide input on meaning and correct usage.
