1. Students Responsibilities a. To attend class as scheduled, to complete assignments in a timely manner, and to take exams as scheduled. To notify the instructor of more than 3 consecutive absences from class. To not simply “disappear”, (you will receive the grade of “F”). To make every attempt to be on time, in courtesy to other students and to the instructor. To have a “buddy” in class for copies of notes if absent or late. b. To prepare for class. (At a minimum, you need to read the chapter before it is covered in class.) Once in class, mature behavior is expected (no parallel talking, reading or writing other materials) during the lecture. To try your best to be involved in class participation (which includes not falling asleep). c. To seek assistance from the professor and from the appropriate College support services (e.g., tutors, counselors, etc.), if the need for such services arises. (Please let me know if you have any specific learning needs or difficulties so I can help you.) d. To
never cheat. Cheating will not be tolerated. The Honor System of the
college prohibits plagiarism and cheating on exams. “Plagiarism (from a Latin word for “kidnapper”) is the presentation of someone else’s ideas or words as your own. Whether deliberate or accidental, plagiarism is a serious offense”. (From The Compact Handbook, by J.E.Aaron)
a. To provide at the outset a course syllabus, which outlines the course assignments, evaluation, rules and expectations. b. To articulate and enforce academic standards and classroom behavior. c. To provide and maintain an intellectual environment which fosters open discussion and mutual respect. d. To hold as confidential information learned during the progress of the course about students’ political, religious, sexual views and orientations, and not to allow such knowledge to influence the instructor’s evaluation of the student in class. e. To meet each scheduled class session with punctuality. To post and maintain office hours and to make every effort to make mutually convenient alternative arrangements when necessary. f. To be open to suggestions, comments and criticisms, and to strive to fulfill the objectives of the course. Furthermore… 1. make-ups will be possible, provided that the student contacts me within 48 hours of the scheduled exam; that the student understands that those make-ups will be arranged according to the instructor’s schedule, and that they will be more difficult. 2. if a student fails to contact me after 3 consecutive absences, I reserve the right to issue a grade of “F”. 3. If a student needs to be absent, it is entirely that student’s responsibility to obtain the materials from another student. |
