Music History Outline Template

As you prepare this outline, bear in mind that its purpose is to supply you with the essentials of the history of music at some time in the future, either for placement tests, or for recall, enjoyment, or further study.

Apply this template to each style period studied this semester. Not all items may apply to every historical period, so adjust where appropriate. Try to include references to specific pieces listened to.

If you choose instead to research the history of an instrument, try to choose one that at least part of its history falls into the periods under study (Music History I=Ancient Greece through Baroque, Music History II=Classic to Contemporary).

Also try to include dates, places, famous makers, information about technical developments, famous composers and performers for this instrument, repertoire for the instrument. In addition, include at least four web sites dealing with the history of the instrument.

Be sure also to follow a contemporary style guide in either type of paper.
