Class studies will focus on note reading, rhythmic counting, proper beginning playing techniques, scale and chord study, and performance preparation. Students will be introduced to concepts and studies through lecture and demonstrations. Students are expected to practice outside of class on a regular basis (practice rooms are available). Required Texts and Materials: Practical Class Piano, A Course for the Adult Beginner, Phiet and Watkins. Fundamentals of Piano Theory, Snell and Ashleigh Music manuscript paper Policies: Students are responsible for attending classes, doing assigned homework and ear training drills on time, and preparing for and taking tests. All College Policies outlined in the College Catalog and Student Handbook will be adhered to, including those of academic integrity. Please be on-time for classes, the nature of our work makes lateness disruptive. Missing greater than 30% of classes will cause a failing grade for the class, regardless of the reason for the absence. Make-up tests will only be given when the student requests the teacher and provides acceptable reasons for the request. In case of emergency, please follow the emergency procedure as discussed on the first day of school and as posted in the classroom. NVCC is a place for learning and growing.
