 2.  Make sure that you have access to the Internet.
 3.  Review the suggested course Schedule, Assignments,and Exams.
 4.  Verify your NVCC student user identification, password, and use  NVCC email to submit all assignments.
 5.  Set up remote access to  the proxy server. Proxy Required 
 6.  Follow all ELI rules and regulations.
 7.  If you need some form of course accommodation, please feel free to discuss this with me or one of the counselors.
  8. If you have any questions about the course, post them on the LBR110
      WebBoard in the FAQ section. If you are having problems 
      logging into  the  WebBoard, email me.

10. Prepare to change your searching habits.

LBR110  teaches students how to effectively find information on the World Wide Web and how search tools retrieve and display information. Students will also learn how to critique search strategy and evaluate web sites.  Unit assignments and exams  provide students with opportunities to demonstrate effective searching expertise.

• Understand the history, current state, and future of information  options on the World Wide Web.

• Analyze an information need and differentiate between online   databases and Internet search tools.

• Identify and compare search tools.

• Select and effectively use the most appropriate search tool to find information.

• Evaluate web sites retrieved for content and presentation.

After submitting your Introductory Letter using NVCC email, begin with Unit I: Online Environment. Read each unit thoroughly and complete the assignments for each of the five instructional units.

Proper grammar, spelling, and style are required for all assignments and exams. 

Each assignment is composed of 6  questions based on the Unit reading.  Email the answers to questions 1 - 5 to me.  The answer to the final question in each assignment should be posted on the LBR110 WebBoard.  Directions are posted.  Preview Assignments and Exams.

Submit assignments one at a time. Batch assignments will not be accepted.  I will email your grade for the assignment within 7 - 10 days of receipt.

Two proctored exams are required and must be taken in campus learning labs/testing centers. Alexandria, Annandale, Loudoun , Manassas, and Woodbridge.

You must bring an exam pass and  photo id when you take each exam. 

 LBR110 - Effective Internet Searching WebBoard

Answers to the last question in each unit will be posted on the WebBoard as directed.  Participation is required for successful completion of  the course.

Follow the on-screen directions for Web Board participation. The first time that you use the WebBoard you will create a new user profile. Remember your user name and password for future access.

• 10 points for the Introductory letter

• 10 points for each Unit (five units)
  ( WebBoard participation  is required for each Unit)

• 20 points for each proctored exam  (two)
