| Each answer is worth 0-10 points, making this exam worth 0-50 points. Answer five questions only; you will not be given credit for additional answers. Keep your answers concise: ½-1 page per answer is sufficient. Be sure to use complete sentences and to provide illustrations for clarity. Using your NVCC e-mail account, e-mail your answers to your instructor at npeck@nvcc.edu. Be sure to put SPD 100 on the message line. |

| 1. Linus, the Peanuts character, has been invited to discuss his devotion to the Great Pumpkin before a group of Rotarians. He is nervous and asks you for your advice on how to get rid of his anxiety. Provide Linus with at least five tips for managing his speech nervousness. 2. The cartoon character Calvin asks you for some assistance in preparing his oral presentation on the brain. He has already considered his visual aid - some cooked noodles in a clear plastic bag. But Calvin knows little about the functions, components, or vulnerabilities of the brain. Provide Calvin with at least five practical tips for researching his subject. To view the actual questions, go to the Assignments section of the SPD 100 Blackboard site.

Please do not simply tell me what youve read in the textbook. I want to know that you understand this information and that youre able to apply these concepts in public speaking situations. When addressing the questions concerning Linus and Calvin, for example, consider that these are young boys who have little interest in and ability to do college-level work. Be practical and personable. |
