Unit Three: Learning more about public speaking

This week your work will focus on getting acquainted face-to-face with your classmates The video introduces you to the field of public speaking.

1. Watch videotape #1: Introduction to Public Speaking;
2.
Sign on to Blackboard and complete two options for Unit Three on the discussion board;
3.
Chapters 1 and 4 of your textbook, A Speaker's Guidebook;
3. Review your video and make a plan for your next demonstration talk:

Present a talk that lasts 4-6 minutes on a subject for which you are an expert. This may be a demonstration that teaches your audience something new. Show us how something works or how to do something that we will view as useful and informative.

Your grade will be based on your organizational pattern and clarity in presenting your message in an engaging and credible manner. Be sure to cite sources of your information to avoid plagiarism!

Provide at least one visual aid as a support item. You are welcome to use props, posters, video clips, PowerPoint or a handout.

Your audience must be able to clearly identify your thesis and your main points.
