This week your work will focus on getting acquainted with the nature of public address, your instructor and your classmates.

1. Is this course right for you? Explore the Extended Learning Institute's tips for success with non-traditional courses, http://eli.nvcc.edu/eliforme/eliforme.asp;
2. Read my introduction (see left) and e-mail me a letter of introduction, npeck@nvcc.edu;
3. Do you have your college e-mail address? Go to the NVCC mainpage at http://www.nvcc.edu and click "mail and web" Once you have it, go to sign on to Blackboard (http://learn.vccs.edu) and explore the SPD 100 course site. I expect you to post responses to the discusssion forums twice each week. You'll want to post your initial responses on Monday or Tuesday and then return to respond to your classmates on Wednesday or Thursday.

5. Watch Videotape #2, Dealing with Speech Anxiety;
6. Read Chapter 5 of your textbook, A Pocket Guide to Public Speaking; and
7. Check out my tips on "Managing Nervousness."
