This
week your work will focus on organizing a good talk.
1.
Watch videotape #4: Structuring a Talk;
2. Read Chapters 11-13 and 23 of your textbook, A Speaker's Guidebook;
3. Sign
on to Blackboard and complete two options for Unit Four on the discussion
board;
4. Check out the assignment for the Demonstration Speech:
Present a talk
that lasts 4-6 minutes on a subject for which you are an expert. This may
be a demonstration that teaches your audience something new. Show us how something
works or how to do something that we will view as useful and informative.
Your grade will be based on your organizational pattern and clarity in presenting your message in an engaging and credible manner. Be sure to cite sources of your information to avoid plagiarism!
Provide at least one visual aid as a support item. You are welcome to use props, posters, video clips, PowerPoint or a handout. Consult Chapters 20-22 of your text for assistance with visual aids.
Your audience must be able to clearly identify your thesis and your main points.
Your speech will be videotaped in class. Please bring your VHS tape to class.
