...If
you have important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever.
Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then
hit it a third time - a tremendous whack..........
- Winston
Churchill
This
week your work will focus on techniques for supporting your thesis and main
ideas for your speech.
1.
Watch videotape #5: Stylistic Considerations;
2. Read Chapters 18-22 of your textbook, A Speaker's Guidebook;
3. Sign
on to Blackboard and complete two options for Unit Five on the discussion
board. Interact with your group as well;
4. Check out the assignment for the Demonstration Speech Outline:
Using the guidelines
provided in Chapter 13 of your text, prepare a speaking outline for
your demonstration speech. Make a copy of this outline and bring both copies
to class. You will use one while delivering your talk and give the other to
your instructor.
Be sure to include the following:
· Your
purpose and thesis statement;
· Your introduction, discussion and conclusion; and
· Delivery cues.
