| The objective of the lab
exercises in Biology 102 is to give you direct experience in using the
scientific method, in performing experiments, and in making extended observations
of live animals.
There are ten separate laboratory
assignments. These are all listed in the following table. These lab exercises
are found in the ELI General Biology Study Guide/Lab Manual (SG/LM). The
page numbers indicate that these are labs for Biology 102 and give the
lab number. For example, 102 Lab 1 - 1 is the page number for the first
page of Lab 1.

One of the 20 point lab
grades will be dropped, making a total of 300 lab points possible.
Labs 3, 5, and 8 cannot
be dropped. They must be submitted for a grade in order for you
to pass Bio 102. |
ELI Labs 3 and 4 are on-campus
labs. You will complete BOTH during ONE visit to the Alexandria Campus
Science Lab which is located in the Bisdorf Building, Room 429, at 3001
North Beauregard Street in Alexandria. When you come to do these labs,
you must bring your signed copy of the safety
rules. Labs 3 and 4 should be done as early as possible in your
enrollment. Since there is continuous enrollment in ELI courses, these
labs may not be offered during week 3 or 4 of your enrollment. However,
you should continue with your work in Biology 102 and come to the campus
to do these labs as soon as they are available. Lab 3 is a laboratory experiment
for which you will write a lab report. It is important for you to write
and submit the lab report as early as possible so that you can receive
feedback from me on your lab report. This lab and the lab report will help
you in your planning for Lab 8, an exercise in which you will plan and
perform a scientific experiment on your own.
The Lab Report for Lab 3
is due within two weeks after you attend the on-campus
lab and perform this experiment.
When you submit your lab
assignments, use the Directions
for Submitting Work to ELI. |
