Weight Training For Life, by James Hesson. Available in the Manassas Campus Bookstore.
REQUIRED MEMBERSHIP:
You will be required to purchase a limited membership
at a designated gym for a fee of $30.00.
ATTENDANCE:
Attendance is a necessity! Regular attendance at
classes is required. Absences equal to 20% of scheduled instructional time
for a course will be defined as unsatisfactory progress unless the instructor
has made other arrangements for the individual student to complete the
course objectives. Any instructions missed and not made up will necessarily
affect the grade of the student, regardless of the reason for the absence.
GRADING:
Two tests will be given. Each test will count 1/3
of your grade. The other 1/3 of your grade will come from your fitness
assessment, attendance and class participation, and your 5 articles. You
must take both tests to pass the course.
| Test 1 | 100 points |
| Test 2 (final) | 100 points |
| 5 magazine articles (5 each) | 25 points |
| Fitness assessment, class
participation
(This includes the 10 workouts.) |
75 points |
Total Points
| 270 - 300 = A |
| 240 - 269 = B |
| 210 - 239 = C |
| 180 - 209 = D |
You can only make up two missed workouts unless there is some unusual circumstance. Talk to your instructor if you miss a workout.
PERSONAL HEALTH:
Any student who feels they have a physical impairment
or related problems that may interfere with class participation, should
inform the instructor as soon as possible. If you have a diagnosed and
documented disability which may cause you to have difficulties with any
portion of the requirements of this class, please contact the instructor
as soon as possible so that arrangements for suitable alternatives or accommodations
can be made.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Weight Training I focuses on muscular strength and
endurance training through individualized workout programs. It teaches
appropriate use of weight equipment, and basic guidelines for resistance
exercises.
COURSE PURPOSE:
To give student knowledge and experience in progressive
weight resistance training, as to how it affects one's physical fitness.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
WORKOUT AT GYM:
While meeting at the designated gym, the student
must do their workout at the scheduled class time (I want to see you exercising).
Also, the student must stay and exercise for a minimum of one hour for
each class that meets at the gym. Students should wear appropriate
clothing and shoes for their workout. Bring a small towel to clean your
perspiration off the equipment, and be sure to re-rack all the weight plates
after you use them. Students will check their name on the roll sheet at
the front counter when they come to class, and they will put the date on
the roll sheet when they come for the one drop-in time.
