In this definition list, the default is an inside list style position. The second definition uses an outside style. Notice the difference? Note: this does not work in Netscape 4.x.

• A dog is a small furry creature from the canine family. Tends to be domesticated, sheds and soils carpets. Also likes to go for "walkies" many times a day and spends lots of time near trees and fire hydrants.
• A cat is a small selfish and furry creature that seems vaguely human. Tends to hate people unless they have a warm lap or gourmet cat food. Occasionally hacks out disgusting things onto the carpet. Whines incessently.
• A bird is a creature that would take flight if we did not leave him most of the time in his cage. The cat spends a good portion of its time awake thinking of ways to eat it.
