Within this site you will find my course syllabi, materials and valuable learning resources. My reading and writing classes will help you to:

  • identify the main ideas and supporting details of written material from a variety of subject areas and formats
  • paraphrase and summarize
  • distinguish fact from opinion and recognize bias
  • draw conclusions from supporting material
  • identify common writing patterns including illustration, chronological, comparison/contrast, definition, cause/effect, and classification
  • improve and enrich vocabulary
  • respond to a variety of written material
  • develop critical thinking skills
  • identify parts of speech
  • identify and correct sentence problems
  • identify and compose sentences containing various sentence patterns
  • write paragraphs that contain topic sentences and sufficient development
  • write multiparagraph essays with focus on main ideas and adequate and relevant support
