Supporting Details: |
- are statements that support the main idea of a reading selection.
- are usually facts, reasons, examples and other kinds of evidence.
- are often introduced with transition words. (Transition words help you anticipate what idea is coming next; they also help you identify the pattern of organization the author is using. )
- are details that can help lead you to the overall main idea.
- can be in the form of major supporting details or minor supporting details. (Major supporting details develop and explain the main idea; minor supporting details clarify the major supporting details.)
