Who was Jesus?

Jesus was born, lived and died in the Holy Land. It is most likely that he was born between 7 - 4 BCE. Christianity teaches that Jesus was miraculously conceived by his mother, thus known as the Virgin Mary. As such, they believe that he is not an ordinary man but, rather, the divine son of God on earth. When he was around the age of 30 Jesus began became an itinerant preacher and began teaching about God (his "father") using the story telling tool of parables. Jesus was also known for performing miracles, especially miraculous healings. Over a period of no more than three years, he attracted a following of disciples and had an inner circle of twelve followers known as the apostles. Jesus and his apostles were all Jewish. The Roman and Jewish authorities of his day found Jesus to be a problem and ultimately had him arrested and put to death by hanging him on a cross - a common Roman punishment of the day referred to as crucifixion.
Christians believe that on the third day after his death, Jesus resurrected from the dead and later ascended into heaven to be with God. Christians believe Jesus to have been the messiah (Christ, in Greek) the Jews of his day were expecting. Christians also refer to him as "Savior" because they believe his and death on the cross to have been a sacrifice that saves them from sin.
